TED SKITS

Every February engineering students and faculty celebrate TED week (‘TED’ is an acronym for “The Engineers Day”, and formerly, “Tired Engineers Day”). There are events throughout the week, including a banquet at which short video skits created by student organizations are screened. Students who represent their student orgs can check out cameras and tripods for the filming of these skits from the Engineering IT office, located in Gellersen 158. A student ID is required, and a waiver must be signed, indemnifying the College in case of loss or damage. The duration of the equipment loan cannot exceed 24 hours, with the exception of one weekend per student org, which are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

Once a group has raw video recorded, they will need to edit that video. This can be accomplished using a variety of tools, including Adobe Premiere Pro, Vegas Pro, and Camtasia. The latter is an entry-level, simple-to-use tool that is good for beginners. Premiere Pro and Vegas Pro are more advanced tools that require some working knowledge of non-linear video editing. Camtasia and Vegas Pro are both available in the student study, Gellersen 223. Reserving the computers in that space is not permitted. Adobe Premiere Pro is available on the first floor of the Christopher Center for Library and Information Resources.

Civil Engineering Senior Design Plotter

Students who are enrolled in the senior design course are periodically required to print full-size drawings on a large-format printer, also called a plotter. The College currently operates an HP t1100 44-in. plotter, to which students can print from their senior design workstations.
