Lipico Ceremonial Helmet Dance Mask
The Makonde are descended from the Bantu people. This mask was worn during young men’s initiation ceremonies. These types of masks are thought to represent ancestors. The subject effigy is depicted as a helmet-head mask with human hair on the top of the head and with tribal facial scarifications and a lip-plug.
