International Transfer Undergraduate Admission

  • Online application
  • Copy of Current Passport
  • Copy of Current Visa (Optional)
  • Writing Sample of at least 250 words (uploaded in the final section of the application)
    • Write an essay describing your academic interests and goals, and your reasons for studying at Valparaiso University. Include in this essay information about yourself that would be helpful as we consider your application: academic interests, service activities, leadership experiences, artistic and athletic interests, hobbies and special skills, and career goals.
    • If you prefer you can use one of the prompts from the Common Application.
  • University Transcripts 
    • We will accept unofficial copies for the admission process
    • If you submit an unofficial copy, please make sure you submit an official copy on the first day of Orientation. That is the only way you will get transfer credit. An official copy is considered official if it meets one of the following criteria:
      • Is brought to campus by you in a sealed and stamped envelope that came directly from your institution
      • If is sent directly from the Registrar’s Office at your previous institution
      • Is sent directly from a government sponsoring organization or an EducationUSA officer
  • If you have completed less than 24 semester hours (credits) we require Proof of English Proficiency 
    • The following are acceptable means to demonstrate and meet our English proficiency requirements:

      • TOEFL (75 iBT minimum)

      • Verifiable IELTS (6.0 minimum)

      • SAT (Reading & Writing score of minimum 500)

      • ACT (English score of minimum 24)

      • Duolingo English Test (DET) with a score of 100 or higher sent from Duolingo

      • iTEP (3.8 or higher)

      • PTE (56 or higher)

      • Completion of at least 2 consecutive years of high school and graduate from a High School in the United States

      • Your country of permanent residence is the United Kingdom (UK) or Australia

      • Completion of Level 112 at an ELS Language Center

      • For English Proficiency Exemptions, please see our approved list

Documents can be sent the following ways:

  • Uploaded by a guidance counselor, principal, or teacher via the Common Application or SendEDU portals
  • Sent via email to intl.materials@valpo.edu
  • Faxed to 001-219-464-6898
  • Or mailed to 1620 Chapel Drive, Valparaiso, IN 46383, USA.

If you would like to submit SAT or ACT scores, our SAT school code is 1874 and our ACT code is 1256. Other materials (resumes, letters of recommendation, etc.) are not required; however, we are happy to consider these items if submitted.

 After admission, students will be required to provide sufficient financial documentation in order to receive an I-20 for study in the USA.

      • Is brought to campus by you in a sealed and stamped envelope that came directly from your high school
      • Is sent directly from a credential evaluator, such as WES or ECE
      • Is sent directly from a government sponsoring organization or EducationUSA officer
  • University Transcripts (The College of Nursing requires professional evaluations of university/college transcripts. Some additional Departments may reserve the right to have a professional evaluation of university/college transcripts)
    • Please make sure it includes an English translation, if in another language.
    • If you submit an unofficial copy, please make sure you submit an official copy on the first day of Orientation. An official copy is considered official if it meets one of these criteria:
      • Is sent directly from your guidance counselor or other high school official
      • Is brought to campus by you in a sealed and stamped envelope that came directly from your high school
      • Is sent directly from a credential evaluator, such as WES, ECE or SpanTran
      • Is sent directly from a government sponsoring organization or EducationUSA officer
    • Tests and English Proficiency
      • If you are an international student and need a visa to study in the U.S., you are required to submit one of the following: SAT ACT, TOEFL, IELTS, iTEP, A and O Levels or IB. (You may submit more than one type of test if you desire).
        • TOEFL (75 iBT minimum)
        • IELTS (6.0 minimum)
        • iTEP (3.8 or higher)
        • PTE (56 or higher)
        • SAT (Reading & Writing score of 500)
        • ACT (English score of 24)
        • GCE or GCSE English exam (Grade of A or B)
        • IB Higher Level English Exam (Score of 5, 6, or 7 or grade A or B)
        • Completion of at least 2 consecutive years of high school and graduate from a US based high school
        • Completion of Level 112 at an ELS Language Center
        • Conditional admission is available for students who have not yet met our English Proficiency requirements.
