Comprehensive Professional Development for the presidential and provost leadership teams

Our institutional leadership should role model the behaviors we wish to see within our community. It is also important that they be able to demonstrate their own levels of competency around conversations related to diversity, inclusion, equity, and justice so they can effectively support students, faculty, and staff in areas of hiring processes and policy development.

5.1.a – University Leadership Participation in institutionally sponsored professional development workshops and seminars related to diversity, inclusion, equity, justice, and anti-racism.
Updates:
In Fall 2022, Assistant Vice President of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion presented a forty five minute presentation to the University Board of Directors on the Action Agenda and its relation to the Strategic Planning. New members were eager to be a part of implementations regarding both plans.


Provided President Cabinet and Provost’s Council Annual DEI Training

The Action Agenda requires that the executive leadership undergo DEI training at least every year. In Spring 2022, twenty-two President Council and Provost Council members attended a three-hour DEI workshop provided by Dr. John Burkhardt, Dr. Betty Overton, and Dr. Christopher Shults. The focus of the session was on DEI planning and its impact across higher ed. They talked about what makes DEI planning effective and what is the role of campus leaders.
5.1.b – University Sponsorship of external speakers and thought leaders on topics of diversity, inclusion, equity, justice, and countering racism.
