It's 1929 in Berlin--on the eve of both the new year and the Nazi's rise to power. At the seedy Kit Kat Klub, American writer Cliff Bradshaw meets English cabaret performer Sally Bowles. And when Sally (who lives by the motto that "life is a cabaret") moves in with Cliff, their relationship becomes complicated to say the least. No less complex is Fraulein Schneider's engagement to Jewish greengrocer, Herr Schultz--especially given the increasing prevalence of the Nazis as the political tides begin to turn for the worse. Energetic song and dance, along with jazzy instrumentals, highlight this musical that is both exuberant and, at times, sinister. Come to the cabaret.
