Listed below are several of Earthtones activities from the 2006-2007 school year. The group has continued to remain active; however, we fail to remember to take pictures. As we enter Spring 2009, there are many activities on our planning books: Local Foods Dinners, conservation/restoration projects, and meetings with senior campus administrators. The group is definitely looking to continue to educate and be active. Check back later this semester to see the results. Or even better, attend a meeting and help us!
Earthtones sponsored a trip to the dunes to help restore a prarie maintained by the Dunes National Park. Fourteen people helped restore the prarie by cutting down trees, cleaning up brush, and seeding the ground with seeds from native plants. The group spent two hours volunteering in the prarie. Shown below is a picture of part of the group receiving their initial instructions and a picture of one of the members finishing off a tree that needed to be removed.

Members of Earthtones, along with the help of several professors, resolved to divert some waste at Jesters from the garbage cans by consuming what others were going to throw away. These individuals stopped students as they were heading to the garbage cans and asked them if they had any food left on their plates. This food was collected by the members of Earthtones. A lot of the food was consumed by the members of Earthtones. The rest of the food was placed in a bucket to be composted. Some pictures from the event are below.

In honor of National Parks Day, six members of Earthtones volunteered at the Indian Dunes National Park. Five of the members helped remove an invasive species from the park. The other volunteer helped repair boardwalks in the national park. The group spent several hours volunteering. A picture of the group with one of the park rangers is below.
