VU alumni are extended the courtesy of lifetime email forwarding. Email forwarding is setup in two steps: through the Online Service Center (www.valpo.edu/it/osc) and a rule in GroupWise.
Accounts will be accessible until the end of the drop/add period of the next semester (this means August for May grads, January for December grads); the exact date is specified on the Registrar's website. After that time, accounts will be disabled, and saved messages or contacts will be inaccessible. Departing students should export contacts and messages they wish to save before accounts are disabled. After accounts have been disabled, alumni may contact the Help Desk to change a forwarding address.
Administrators of shared email folders should transfer ownership to a successor.
Departing students should unsubscribe from any mailing lists to which they may be subscribed. Administrators of any mailing lists should train an appropriate individual to become the new administrator of the list.
Alumni H:\ drives will be accessible until the end of the drop/add period of the next semester (this means August for May grads, January for December grads); the exact date is specified on the Registrar's website. After that time, accounts will be disabled and files saved on the H:\ drive will be inaccessible.
Save files to a CD or a USB flash drive from a lab computer in the Christopher Center, or download files to a personal computer via NetStorage (netstorage.valpo.edu) before accounts are disabled.
All OneCard ID services are deactivated 7 days after graduation, including parking garage and door access, Dining Dollars, Crusader Cash, and library services. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the OneCard Office at OneCard@valpo.edu or 219-464-5153.
Departing students should note important information from any remaining messages in campus voicemail boxes. All voicemail messages will be purged from voicemail boxes. Currently there is no way to save phone mail messages to an external device. Make arrangements to pass along information about shared voicemail boxes to successors.
Departing students currently using any software provided by IT for use on the VU network must uninstall these programs after leaving. This includes the Cisco Systems CCA or VPN clients as well as Sophos antivirus software.
For the safety and security of your personal computer, IT recommends you obtain antivirus and anti-malware software for your computer.
Personal web pages and blogs should be removed from the VU web space. IT will remove any personal web pages and blogs after accounts have been disabled.
