The friendship between Valparaiso University and China could be traced back to 1980’s.
Now with the increased applicants from China, in order to well prepare the future leaders with the global perspective; to provide Chinese applicants with an understanding of the style an process of higher education in the USA plus general orientation for them as they adjust to US culture, so culture-shock becomes culture-stimulation, Valparaiso University established several programs in partnership with the following universities and agent in China before students have been admitted to VU:
Beijing Jiaotong University:
The program is currently implemented through a combination of faculty/staff sponsored by both BJTU and Valparaiso University. Specifically, Valpo has brought Chinese faculty to its campus to train them in the teaching of English to non-native speakers. In addition, Valpo sends faculty each year to Beijing to offer preliminary academic coursework and instruction that assists students with acclimation to US standards and style of education. BJTU selects candidates for participation in the program based on criteria set forth by VU, but VU based on its admission standards, ultimately decides who, among the students completing the program, are eligible for admission to the University’s programs.
The first group of 12 students has successfully got their visas on June 30 and will start their exciting journey at Valpo in August 2009.
