IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR NEW STUDENTS

SUMMER WELCOME and MANDATORY ORIENTATION

FOR NEW GRADUATE STUDENTS and

COLLEGE OF ADULT SCHOLAR STUDENTS

Congratulations on your acceptance to Valparaiso University. The Graduate School and Office of Continuing Education conducts an orientation for new students each semester.  Please mark your calendar for the mandatory Summer Orientation to be held:

SUMMER I

Monday, May 21, 2012

4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Christopher Center Library

Room 261-A

  • This Summer I session is for students ENROLLED in courses from May 22 – June 29

SUMMER II

Monday, July 2, 2012

4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Christopher Center Library

Room 261-A

  • This Summer II session is for students ENROLLED in courses from July 2 – August 10

This orientation includes distribution of relevant University publications and will help you make a smooth transition by ensuring that you have all the necessary tools (student ID, library access, and University computer network and email accounts).

You must attend an orientation session!  Please contact the Graduate School and Office of Continuing Education to confirm your attendance at the May 21th Orientation Session by Friday, May 18, 2012, at 219.464.5313, toll free at 1.800.821.7685 or email us at Graduate.School@valpo.edu.  If you are attending the July 2nd Orientation Session, please confirm by Friday, June 29, 2012.

 


 

Summer Orientation Schedule

9:00 am -         STUDENT PHOTO I.D. CARD – No appointment necessary

12:00 pm         This is only for students who do not currently have a VU student ID card.

and                  Pictures will be taken for student ID cards and you will receive the ID card after a short wait.

1:00 pm -         You MUST be registered for courses in order to obtain a student ID, username, and password.

4:00 pm

* The One Card office is located on the second floor of the Christopher Center Library.   If you have questions about your student ID, please call the One Card Office at (219) 464-5131. 

PARKING STICKERS:  Parking stickers are not required for the summer session.  You will, however, be required to obtain a parking sticker at the VU Police Department during the first week of FALL classes.  VUPD is open 24 hours a day for your convenience.  You must bring your vehicle registration with you, and the cost of the sticker will be approximately $105 for one year.  If you have questions about parking stickers, please call VUPD at 219-464-5430.

4:00 pm           Policies and Services

Jennifer Guziewicz, Director of Academic Services of The Graduate School, will advise you about various policies and procedures important for success.  You will also be informed of your rights and responsibilities as a student at VU, and where and how to resolve problems.  In addition, opportunities for enhanced professional success and personal enrichment are covered.  Important University publications and resource directories will be distributed during this session.

 

       Library and Computer Services

A representative of the Christopher Center Library Services will provide you with hands-on experience regarding the learning and information resources available through the library, particularly those relevant to graduate study. In addition, using your VU username and password (provided at the session if you don’t already have it), you will log onto the computer network system and briefly learn about how to access software such as Word and Excel, to use your email account, access the web and to use the IT resources available such as DataVU and CourseVU.
